What happened at the Flamingo Beach resort in Spain?
Sue Hilton had travelled to the Flamingo Beach Resort for a relaxing family getaway with her mother and 2 children in February 2014.
However arrival at the Flamingo Beach Resort, they quickly became aware of numerous hygiene problems. Much of the food appeared to be undercooked or lukewarm and was often left completely uncovered. In many areas, flies were seen landing on the uncovered food.
After just four days, Sue Hiltons 13 year old daughter fell ill with symptoms including severe stomach cramps, vomiting, and diarrhoea. Days later, Sue Hilton began experiencing similar symptoms herself.
The family had spoken to numerous other guests at the hotel who had spent much of their holiday suffering from symptoms of illness.
After returning home, Miss Hilton contacted her tour operator First Choice, in order to raise a complaint. After initially being offered vouchers towards another holiday, Miss Hilton decided to contact our holiday illness claims team.
Sue Hilton commented:
We were really looking forward to a relaxing family holiday but that was ruined by the conditions within the hotel.
The food at the hotel was truly terrible and was never served at the right temperatures.
Id like to thank Anne and all the team at HolidayIllnessClaims for their help and we are really pleased to have the claim settled.
Comments on the case from our Head of Travel Law
It is really pleasing to see Miss Hilton and her family obtain compensation.
When food and hygiene standards within hotels are poor, there is a risk of holidaymakers contracting serious illness.
It is vital that all hotels ensure that high hygiene standards are maintained in order to prevent such outbreaks of illness.
