£5,600 settlement success for couple wiped out by gastric illness

Michael and Sara Crosby jetted off to Hurghada, Egypt for a 2-week stay at the Thomas Cook promoted Stella Makadi Gardens in May 2014.

Forming part of the larger Stella Makadi Beach and Gardens resort, guests at the vast Egyptian complex have access to a total of 6 restaurants, 9 swimming pools and numerous facilities such as a spa and health club.

Unfortunately, the West Yorkshire couple had little chance to enjoy the complexs four-star trappings as they were struck by severe gastric illness during their stay.

The ill-fated couple were alarmed by several hygiene failings at the hotel. They were horrified to witness birds regularly flying around the dining room and food left to go cold and spoil.

Mr Crosby was the first of the couple to fall ill just 4 days into their stay. He was to suffer from the symptoms of food poisoning for an agonising 12 days.

Mrs Crosby fell ill during the second week of their disastrous Egyptian escape and continued to be unwell for a number of weeks once back in the UK. The sickness stricken holidaymaker was diagnosed with confirmed gastroenteritis by her GP.

The afflicted couple decided to take legal action and appointed specialist solicitor Sue Robinson at Holiday Illness Claims to represent their case for compensation on a no win, no fee basis.
