Mark and his fiancée Lianne had travelled to the Thomson promoted Sea Club Resort in Egypt only to be struck by a severe sickness bug that was reportedly plaguing guests at the all-inclusive hotel.

After being completely unable to enjoy their holiday due to the sickness, the couple contacted HolidayIllnessClaims and were able to make a successful claim against Thomson on a no win no fee basis.

Outbreaks of sickness at the Sea Club Resort in Egypt

Soon after arriving at the Thomson promoted Sea Club Resort,  Mark and Lianne’s luxury holiday gave way to illness as they began suffering severe symptoms of sickness.

Speaking to industry leaders HolidayIllnessClaims, Mark vividly recalls waking early one morning due to excruciating stomach cramps quickly followed by diarrhoea. The pain was so sudden and crippling that I was completely floored, he explained.

Later that morning, Lianne started to experience intense sickness and was struck by the same stomach cramps and diarrhoea that had crippled Mark earlier. Both Mark and Lianne continued to suffer from the illness symptoms for the rest of their holiday, ruining the second week of their stay. Lianne added:

We had to remain either bedridden or close to our hotel room due to the severity of the sickness bug; drinking only bottled water and nibbling on the occasional piece of toast. The second week was quite simply a nightmare.

The couple claim that many of their fellow holidaymakers suffered similar illness symptoms during their stay and they remain certain that poor food hygiene was the cause of guests misery.

Food quality was far from adequate, stated Mark. We were frequently served meals that were either cold or lukewarm and it quickly became apparent that food was continually reheated and served up throughout the day from one meal to the next.

Lianne argues that it also became clear that the hotel was watering down drinks.

On their return to the UK, the couple were still experiencing illness symptoms. I had to take 4 days off work, commented Mark. It was not until the end of May, some 10 days after we first fell ill with the sickness bug that Lianne and myself started to recover.

We tried to seek medical attention at the resort but the doctor wanted to charge us 600 euros for a course of injections, we thought this was an extortionate price to pay as the sickness was due to the hotels lack of food hygiene.

Owing to our awful experience, we have vowed to never return to the resort or even to Egypt.
