Gastric illness halts Birthday celebrations at Sentido Perissia, Turkey

What happened at the Sentido Perissia in Turkey?

Keith and Karen Jennings and David and Karen Martin had booked the birthday getaway with Thomas Cook in September 2014. It was not long before the first in the party fell ill with sickness and diarrhoea and severe stomach pains.

Mrs Martin, one member of the party celebrating their birthday at the Sentido Perissia, described the hotels restaurant as being infested with flies.

She added: The hotel staff were setting out the breakfast at around 2am, this means that some food was left standing for around 8 hours and it did not seem the food was being re-heated.

We noticed flies climbing all over the fresh fruit so we tried to avoid this, the resort is meant to be 5* but thats not what we experienced.

Mr Keith Jennings, also celebrating his birthday, was bed ridden for 3 days, he said: I came down with the illness on Sunday morning, my wife tried to get the hotel doctor but he was not present as he did not work Sundays.

The hotel said that they could not contact the doctor, nor any other doctor, so I was referred to the hospital.

After tests Mr Jennings was diagnosed with acute gastroenteritis and severe dehydration and was then placed on a drip for around 9 hours.

Mrs Karen Jennings commented: We were made to book an extra night at the hotel as my husband was deemed unfit to fly, its overwhelmingly devastating to be in this situation and I would not wish it upon anyone.

After eight previous visits to Turkey, we shall not be returning. However, we were delighted that we were able to get quick and easy advice upon our return to England and we cannot thank Tracy Stansfield enough for her support through what was a very distressing time.
