Holiday illness and accident ruins Mexican holiday
The Blakeway family had travelled to the Gran Caribe Real Resort & Spa in Mexico to celebrate the wedding of a family friend. However, just days into the holiday the family of four began to experience symptoms of diarrhoea, nausea and stomach cramps.
Sadly, the family was further distrupted when Dianne Blakeway fell heavily on her back after slipping whilst making her way into the restaurant. The holiday accident left Mrs Blakeway suffering a soft tissue injury causing severe pain and discomfort.
Initially, liability had been denied by Thomas Cook. However, after court proceedings were issued, the solicitor assisting Mrs Blakeway with her claim negotiated a settlement of £6,500 with the tour operator.
Mrs Blakeway commented on the conditions at Gran Caribe Real Resort & Spa:
After the outbreak, the Resort closed the restaurant for two days, whilst men in white suits were seen disinfecting corridors and rooms.
Glasses were no longer being used for drinks and were replaced with plastic cups.
