Travellers diarrhoea in Egypt

HIC client, Denise Brothers jetted off to the five-star Jaz Mirabel Park in May 2015. During the second week of her 2 weeks stay, Mrs Brothers was struck by the crippling symptoms of travellers diarrhoea.

Despite seeking medical attention in resort and being prescribed a regimen of medications by the hotel doctor, Mrs Brothers remained unwell throughout the remainder of her stay.

On her return home, Mrs Brothers sought further medical advice from her own GP as she continued to experience bouts of gastric upset and endured a number of infections. Her doctor advised that the ferocity of her holiday illness left her immune system compromised and diagnosed her with post-infectious irritable bowel syndrome, a condition which still troubles Mrs Brothers today.

Speaking to the dedicated lawyers at HIC, Mrs Brothers claims that hygiene standards throughout Jaz Mirabel Park were far from five-star with a number of her fellow holidaymakers also suffering from gastric issues.

She draws particular attention to food and pool hygiene, stating that:

  • Flies and birds were seen around prepared food
  • Swimming pool water was not clean and clear
