Deborah Beswick contacted the expert claims solicitors at Holiday Illness Claims following her ruined September 2015 getaway at the four-star Tryp Cayo Coco resort.

Salmonella food poisoning

Located in the Ciego de Avila area of Cuba, the Tryp Cayo Coco promises guests excellent dining spaces.

Unfortunately, for Holiday Illness Claims client, Mrs Beswick, she found that the food on offer at the resort far from excelled her expectations.

She claims to have witnessed numerous hygiene failings at the hotel, including:

  • Food was left uncovered
  • The buffet selection appeared to be left for long periods of time at room temperature
  • Food seemed to be reheated and recycled
  • Flies were seen in the dining room and on the food
  • Birds flew around the buffet restaurant on one occasion

Although Mrs Beswick was illness-free for the first week of her 14-night stay, things soon soured towards the end of her stay as she experienced the debilitating symptoms of food poisoning.

Despite self-medicating in resort, the Oldham holidaymaker found little relief from sickness, diarrhoea and stomach cramps. Her plight only continued to worsen upon her return to the UK where she sought advice from an out of hours GP at Manchester Royal Hospital and her own GP.

Following doctor led tests, Mrs Beswick received a diagnosis of salmonellosis.

Unfortunately, Mrs Beswick is still troubled by repeat illness symptoms today and has been advised that her symptoms are not expected to resolve until July 2017, creating an illness duration of nearly 2 years.
