Group claim, Boudicca Cruise Ship

Boudicca cruise ship norovirus victims secure £42,500 settlement

Our holiday illness claims team has recently helped 26 British holidaymakers obtain a combined payout of £42,500 after outbreaks of norovirus on board the Boudicca cruise ship.

The holidaymakers had booked their cruises on the Fred Olsen cruise ship between November 2009 and April 2010. The outbreaks of illness affected six separate cruises, with many passengers experiencing severe gastric illness.

After receiving almost no response from Fred Olsen, the 26 passengers contacted the expert solicitors at HolidayIllnessClaims and were able to receive the compensation they deserved on a no win no fee basis.

What caused the outbreaks on board the Fred Olsen Boudicca Cruise Ship?

Our holiday illness claims experts have represented numerous who had planned to spend time with their family over the Christmas period on board a luxury cruise ship. Yet their Christmas holidays were ruined as the outbreaks of norovirus struck the cruise ship.

Our client, Dawn Constable, 49, from Kent, had booked the luxury cruise to celebrate her mothers birthday on Christmas Eve. However, their break was soon ruined as her mother began suffering from symptoms of norovirus on her birthday.

She said: We had not been on the ship very long when people began to become ill. The first I noticed was that the facilities on the ship began to close down.

The whole experience was an absolute nightmare. We were literally surrounded by passengers who were vomiting on the stairs, in the shop, in the corridors, and in the lounges. It was simply horrendous.

My mother became ill on her birthday, Christmas Eve. This totally spoilt the occasion for her. My mother was confined to her cabin on Christmas Day and on Boxing Day. I was relieved when the cruise was cut short by one day due to the amount of illness on board.

Norovirus is one of the most common causes of illness on cruise ships. Due to the confined nature of the ships, norovirus can spread quickly from person to person. As a result, it is vital that all cruise operators ensure high standards of hygiene and cleanliness are always maintained.

The recurrent nature of the outbreaks of illness on board the Boudicca cruise have led to many passengers questioning the sanitation procedures carried out by Fred Olsen.

Cruises were affected by sickness outbreaks from November 2009 to April 2010, however many cruises continued to sail without delay even after severe outbreaks of norovirus affected previous passengers.

On Christmas day of 2009, many passengers were confined to their cabins as a result of the severity of the illness suffered.

Comments from our experienced solicitor

The illness suffered on board the Boudicca cruise ship was a very a serious and sustained outbreak which spread from cruise to cruise.

Although the claims have been successfully settled, Fred Olsen have not accepted responsibility for the outbreaks. We have now been fighting for our clients for four years and everybody here at Holiday Illness Claims is delighted that our clients have finally received compensation for the very nasty illness that they contracted.
