Self-employed hairdresser Brenda Farthing jetted off to the Caribbean World Hammamet Beach Hotel in September 2013 with her four children but their family holiday was soon ruined by severe symptoms of salmonella.

The family turned to the specialists at HolidayIllnessClaims after returning to the UK and were able to receive almost £20,000 in a no win no fee claim against their tour operator Just Sunshine.

What happened at the Caribbean World Hammamet Beach Hotel?

Miss Farthing had hoped that the three-star Caribbean World Hammamet Beach Hotel in Tunisia would provide the perfect setting for a fun-filled family holiday.

Sadly, within a matter of days, Miss Farthings holidays dreams were shattered as her entire family was struck down by a salmonella outbreak at the hotel.

Single mother Miss Farthing watched on helplessly as her children battled with diarrhoea, vomiting and agonising stomach cramps whilst suffering from symptoms herself.

Unfortunately, for a number of salmonella sufferers, complications can occur post-infection and Miss Farthings son, Taylen, 12 at the time of the holiday, suffered from a range of symptoms into his teenage years.

Taylen has been forced to adopt a lactose free diet as he developed a lactose intolerance and post-infectious irritable bowel syndrome as a result of the salmonella infection.

Although, the remainder of the family have now fully recovered from the illness, they remain worried about Taylens health.

Miss Farthing contacted Industry leaders Holiday Illness Claims following the disastrous stay at the Caribbean World Hammamet Beach Hotel. Specialist solicitor Anne Thomson represented the Farthing familys case on a no win, no fee basis and secured £19,500 in compensation from tour operator Just Sunshine for the salmonella stricken household.

Anne commented: I am absolutely delighted to have been able to assist the Farthing family following a serious outbreak of salmonella at the Caribbean World Hammamet Beach Hotel.

Salmonella is commonly caused by ingesting undercooked food and poor hygiene. Symptoms such as diarrhoea and vomiting generally present 12 72 hours after ingesting contaminated foods.
