Marmaris Palace in Turkey holidaymaker confirmed with salmonella
We have previously reported on outbreaks of illness at the Marmaris Palace after British holidaymakers contacted our holiday claims experts.
Our holiday illness claims specialists have received yet another enquiry from a British family who contracted salmonella during their stay at the Marmaris Palace in Turkey.
After travelling to the hotel in July 2014, the family of four quickly fell ill. After suffering symptoms of gastric illness they were admitted to a hospital in Turkey for treatment. On their return to the UK, family members were confirmed as having contracted salmonella.
Salmonella, the name of a group of bacteria, is one of the most common causes of food poisoning. This may result in holidaymakers suffering symptoms including sickness, severe stomach cramps and diarrhoea.
When food is served undercooked, holidaymakers are at risk of contracting salmonella food poisoning.
Others at the Marmaris Palace have reported on the hotel review website TripAdvisor that food left over from dinner is served the next day. Hotel guests have also commented on poor hygiene standards within the hotel stating that a lack of cleanliness at the hotel, attracts insects.
Anne Thomson, head of our holiday illness claims team, commented: We are concerned by the illness that has recently been reported to us. If food is prepared, stored and cooked correctly, salmonella infections should not occur.
It is of the utmost importance that the tour operators and hotel management investigate the current reports of illness at the Marmaris Palace to protect the health of all future holidaymakers.
If anyone has fallen ill during their stay at this hotel, I would urge them to contact myself or a member of our holiday claims team without delay.
