Family holidays ruined by illness at the Lykia World Oludeniz
Our holiday illness claims experts have recently received enquires after a reported outbreak of illness at the Lykia World Oludeniz in Turkey.
The hotel, which is promoted by tour operators including Thomas Cook, has received criticism on the review website TripAdvisor after hotel guests suffered illness suffering symptoms including sickness, diarrhoea, and stomach cramps.
One holidaymaker commented that members of their family had fallen ill after food was left uncovered in the hotels restaurants.
They commented: The food is lukewarm, becomes very monotonous and the biggest issues are the flies and wasps. Surely fly nets could be put over the open foods. There are so many wasps you cannot sit through a full meal without having to jump up and shoo them away.
I must add that in 30 years of foreign travel, I have never been ill on a holiday but suffered diarrhoea for four days before we left and was also doubled with stomach cramps. This in turn has affected my husband, friend and her 7 year old daughter who spent her last night vomiting. My 5 year old son suffered 24 hours after arriving home and subsequently missed two days of school.
Another visitor to the hotel stated that they were aware of many families whose holidays were affected by illness.
The holidaymaker said: I returned from Lykia a few days ago and wanted to make people aware of a severe sickness that is working its way round the hotel.
My family and I were really poorly and after discussing it with other families and the rep we became aware there was a serious issue with this at the hotel yet nobody informed us about this until it was too late. There were 15 other English families that were also ill and that is just the ones we spoke to and know of.
The food was very average compared to other 5 star hotels. I sent back undercooked chicken on several occasions and pulled hairs out of my daughters pasta.
We also witnessed staff filling up the slushy machine with a bucket of water. This was concerning as we were advised not to drink the water in Turkey.
Tracy Stansfield, an experienced holiday claims solicitors, said of the outbreak: We are currently receiving enquiries from British holidaymakers who have fallen ill at the Lykia World Oludeniz.
It is concerning to read of further reports online. From the reports, it would appear that there may well be a problem with the food and of course it is a well-known fact that if chicken is not cooked correctly, it can cause illness.
I would urge anyone who has fallen ill at the Lykia World Oludeniz to contact myself or a member of our holiday claims team for expert advice as to the merits of making a claim. We are always on hand to answer any questions you may have.
