HIC specialists instructed following alleged outbreak of hand, foot and mouth disease at four-star Sa Coma Resort
Several British families have turned to the HIC travel law experts for help to claim compensation after their hard-earned holidays were ruined by an outbreak of illness.
Our specialist solicitors have heard reports from numerous holidaymakers, describing how symptoms such as blisters, fever and loss of appetite left them in need of medical attention in resort.
HIC client, Katie Massie travelled to the Protur Safar Park in July 2017 and claims that her daughter, Demi was placed onto a regimen of painkillers after being diagnosed with hand, foot and mouth disease.
Demi had no appetite and didnt eat for 2 days, she comments.
There were even blisters on her tongue and gums.

Katie further comments that tour operator, Thomson, failed to inform her of the outbreak, stating, If we had known about the issue, we would have cancelled our holiday.
There was no prior warning, no notices, no information sheet and from what I could see, no enhanced cleaning methods, she adds.
HIC clients, the McCabe family, are also pursuing a no win no fee claim for hand, foot and mouth disease on holiday after their daughter become unwell at the Protur Safari Park.
The McCabe party describe their holiday as horrid and claim that they were effectively room bound for days owing to the illness:
Our daughter started with headaches, followed by a high temperature, shaking and then spots.
At one point, she couldnt walk as she had blisters on the soles of her feet and they were very sore.
We treated her with painkillers from a local pharmacy in resort and saw our GP on our return where she was diagnosed with hand, foot and mouth disease.
The McCabes are in agreement with the Massie party that they would not have travelled to the resort if they have been aware of issues beforehand. They too believe that no extra measures were taken to contain the spread of illness, commenting:
I dont recall seeing any extra cleaning and I do not believe that the pools were cleaned once during our stay.
The standard of hygiene in our room was poor too the linen and towels were not changed regularly and the bathroom was not in good working order.
We reported our daughters illness to reception where we were abruptly told that there were no other cases in the hotel.
We were told that management would be in touch, but we never heard anything.
Both families initially raised complaints with Thomson but after receiving no reply, instructed the dedicated solicitors at HIC.
HIC first choice for hand, foot and mouth disease compensation
Danielle Burnie, Litigation Executive at HolidayIllnessClaims is handling both the Massie and McCabe parties claims for compensation.
Danielle said: Hand, foot and mouth disease can be a particularly unpleasant illness that affects both children and adults.
Those with the disease are often confined to their hotel room and face out of pocket expenses for medical treatment.
If you or your loved ones develop any of the symptoms of hand, foot and mouth disease on holiday, I would always advise that your report your illness to your tour operator and seek medical attention as soon as possible. Documenting any hygiene failings as well as exchanging contact details with other afflicted holidaymakers can also prove beneficial should you wish to make a claim for compensation on your return to the UK.
